Oceana Group (JSE: OCE), Africa’s largest fishing and commercial cold storage company, has appointed Zodwa Velleman to the new position of Group Executive for Regulatory and Corporate Affairs as of 01 July 2019.
Velleman, who was most recently the Chief Executive Officer of the Vaping Products Association of South Africa (VPASA), brings with her more than 20 years of leadership experience spanning various local and international industries in the areas of legal, public policy, sustainability and communications.
“We welcome onboard the expertise of Ms Velleman and look forward to the positive contribution she will make in this new role as she takes the business’s corporate and regulatory affairs forward,” says Imraan Soomra, Oceana Group Chief Executive Officer.
Prior to her role of CEO with VPASA, Velleman was a Board Member, Legal, Corporate Security and Corporate Affairs Executive Director for Heineken SA. She is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and earlier in her career worked for the Human Rights Commission and Parliament of South Africa.
"The genuine commitment of Oceana to meaningful transformation, diversity, job security and improving lives through food security, sealed the deal. This resonates with me and I am proud to be associated with Oceana," says Velleman.
Soomra adds that the employment of Velleman serves to further strengthen the Group’s leadership team.
“Her appointment builds on our ambition of embedding a strong performance-based culture with the right skills, capabilities, morale and productivity needed to achieve our global growth aspirations,” he concludes.
